Breath-Led Yoga Instructor & Dragon's Way Qigong® Instructor
Jen tried her first yoga class in 2002, on a weekend getaway and was hooked. The stretching initially drew her in because it felt so good after jogging. Soon she fell in love with the stillness, the breath, and the clarity yoga brings to the mind. As a mom and an English teacher, there was never enough time for more than one yoga class per week. After ten years of taking vinyasa flow, Iyengar, and Hatha yoga classes, Jen stopped teaching full-time and devoted her time to her family and her own yoga practice and studies. She completed her 200-hour training in 2014 and soon was lucky enough to take a few classes with A.G. Mohan, longtime student of Sri. T. Krishnamacharya, the father of modern yoga. This learning with Mohan was unlike any other yoga she had experienced–profound, simple, essential. Since then she has been deepening her practice and teaching over the past 3 years, with Mohan’s student, Therese Jornlin.
Jornlin was given these ancient teachings through direct one-on-one study in India, which is unlike the way most yoga is taught in the U.S. Jen has been so moved by Jornlin’s teaching of yoga as a breath-centered practice with asana and mediation full of compassion, curiosity, patience, and perseverance that she was inspired to create The Lotus Center as an extension of this learning. She hopes to offer more opportunities for everyone in our area who is interested, to explore his or her understanding of the breath and how yoga can bring clarity their lives.
Jen has a B.A. in English, a minor in Spanish, and an M.A. in Education from the University of Delaware. Since 2014, Jen has been teaching a gentle breath-focused Yoga and studying Traditional Chinese Medicine with Grandmaster Nan Lu. In 2022 she completed her Dragon’s Way Qigong® Instructor training in NY, and regularly offers this 6-week comprehensive session to help others create their own health. She looks forward to continued learning and unfolding of the simple truths and connections to nature that yoga and qigong practice bring.
Jen loves to travel! In addition to traveling within the US, she’s been to Spain, Mexico, France, Italy, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. Jen loves being a mom to Ceci, Lena, Sam, Jacob, her dog Pico and her goats and chickens. She enjoys every moment with the great love of her life, her husband, Jonathan.
